Commitment to Nature and Culture

A conscious model rooted in the land.
Because loving a place means, above all, caring for it.

Natural surroundings of Arsèguel at the foot of the Cadí, Pyrenees

Sustainability that is not proclaimed: it is lived

At Font del Genil, our commitment to nature is not a badge on the wall or a framed certificate. It is the way things are done: from how we buy, how we cook, how we build and how we engage with the territory and the people who inhabit it.

Every decision, large or small, stems from the same conviction: that it is possible to do things well without sacrificing excellence. That respect for the landscape and for those within it — guests, producers, neighbours — is compatible with quality and beauty.

We do not say this to look good. We do it because we believe it is the only coherent way to exist in a place like this: at the foot of the Cadí, in a village like Arsèguel, in a landscape that deserves to be cared for and passed on.

Our commitments

Organic and km0 food

All products for the kitchen and hotel cleaning are organic. We buy in bulk and directly from the producer, reducing packaging and eliminating unnecessary middlemen. The criterion is simple: what is nearby, in season and of real quality.

The menu changes with the seasons because it is not the menu that adapts to the produce: it is the produce that defines the menu. Garden vegetables, artisan cheeses from the area, Cadí mushrooms, mountain honey, local farm meat. Territorial cooking, honest and traceable, without concessions.

Architecture and natural materials

Font del Genil is an 18th-century construction with stone walls, wooden beams and a traditional clay tile roof. The comprehensive restoration carried out in 2004 by architect Marçal Giró Borrès fully respected the original structure, preserving the spirit and memory of the building.

Contemporary interventions — iron, steel and glass — engage with the past with discretion and minimalism. The materials chosen for furniture and fabrics prioritise naturalness and durability: solid wood, bed linen and towels made from natural organic fibres, bathroom cosmetics free of harsh chemicals. Lasting well is also a form of respect.

Community and living culture

Sustainability also means supporting the local economy, helping to keep a village like Arsèguel alive and providing meaningful work for people from the territory. Buying from the neighbour. Telling the story of the place. Valuing the heritage that hosts us.

We believe that the Cadí and Alt Urgell deserve to be known for their authenticity, not for an imitation of what already exists in many other places. That is why every detail of Font del Genil has a reason linked to the territory and the people who have made it possible.

Eòlia Fundació Miranda

We support Eòlia Fundació Miranda, a project driven by the conviction that the beauty of the landscape and the biodiversity of the High Pyrenees deserve to be preserved, studied and explained to future generations.

The foundation works on nature conservation, environmental education and deep connection between people and the Pyrenean landscape. Their work is aligned with ours: believing that the natural environment is not a backdrop or a resource, but a value to be cared for and passed on.

The collaboration between Font del Genil and Eòlia Fundació Miranda is a shared commitment to a territory and a way of being in the world that deserves to be continued.

Hiking and mountain biking routes from the hotel

Arsèguel is an excellent starting point for discovering the Cadí and Alt Urgell on foot or by mountain bike. At Font del Genil we have created a profile on Wikiloc where you will find routes that set off directly from the hotel or from the village: trails for all levels, passing through mountain passes, meadows and corners of the territory that you will hardly find in any guidebook.

There are gentle hiking routes — like those that give their names to our rooms: Pont de la Tosca, Prat Torrent, Pigueroles and Coll de Jou — as well as mountain biking circuits for those who want to test their legs among the mountains.
